Want to run in aid of SMART

Join thousands of runners and take on the event distance of your choosing around traffic-free stunning Bedfordshire countryside in 2023 to support SMART.

With the 5K and Twilight 10K on the Saturday, and the Half Marathon and 20 Mile race on the Sunday, you can make a weekend of it and either support all the other runners or take on two or even three of the events!

Your ticket includes a t-shirt and finisher’s medal, and after crossing the finish line in the beautiful Priory Country Park, celebrate in style with a festival vibe waiting for you and other runners. Don’t forget to collect your medal and goody bag!

By participating in this event, you can help us to support people through the most difficult times of their lives, whether that’s preventing homelessness, the loss of a job, homelessness itself or just a hot meal.

Your fundraising target is £75 for 5K, £150 for 10K, £275 for Half Marathon, and £300 for 20 Mile.

Your participation in this event makes you truly incredible. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced runner, you can support SMART by participating in the Bedford Running Festival 2023.  After crossing the finish line, enjoy the Festival Village, with activities such as a children’s fun fair, open air cinema, street food, and more, including the SMART tent in the Charity Village.

About the SMART Prebend Centre Service

The building on the Prebend Street site has been used as a safe place for people experiencing homelessness since 1992. That’s an amazing 30 years of help and support for people in Bedford.

We offer support for people who are homeless and people facing becoming homeless. Our service provides immediate help in the form of meals, warm clothing and hot showers. We can then offer practical advice and support on debt, housing, health, mental health and addictions from our dedicated SMART team members or partner organisations.

Disappointingly, there is no statutory or government funding for the Prenbend Centre  – we stay open only through the generosity and kindness of people in and around Bedford and further afield. The staff, heating, lighting and food costs (as we all know from our won bills at home) all need to be paid and are rising at an alarming rate.

It costs around £250,000.00 a year to keep the centre open.

Thank you very much for your support, generosity and kindness.
