Smiles for SMART Courtesy of Castle Comedy and Bedford Park Rotary

Castle Comedy, in conjunction with Bedford Park Rotary held a fabulous fundraising night for the SMART Prebend Centre last month. We are delighted to announce that we have received a total of £1546 from the event, including a cheque for £1000 from Bedford Park Rotary and £546 from the Castle Comedy reverse auction.

Castle Comedy has been running for 8 years in Bedford and has a reputation as one of the best comedy clubs in the UK. In March it is moving to Central Square Bedford, an exciting new venue in the heart of the town. Paul Revill, the man behind Castle Comedy said he is “delighted to be able to support the SMART Prebend Centre. What could be better than having a laugh and raising money for a brilliant Bedford initiative!”

Pictured is Paul Revill, Castle Comedy, and Anita McCallum, CEO of SMART CJS, looking delighted about receiving the generous donation.

Mrs McCallum commented: “Thank you to everyone involved in the organisation of this event and especially to Bedford Park Rotary and Castle Comedy working together for the benefit of our homeless and rough sleeper community in Bedford – you are a truly wonderful partnership!”

About the Centre

SMART Prebend Centre is open 365 days of the year supporting those who sleep rough, are vulnerably housed and socially isolated. The centre is a place of safety; providing food, warmth, water, showers and a place to rest. Further, it provides an opportunity to assess peoples’ needs and engage them in longer term support to move beyond homelessness.

The service is entirely reliant on donations and the support of the community and costs over £250,000 a year to stay open. We encountered unplanned building repairs towards the end of 2019, totaling more than £90,000, and we urgently need your help to fund the renovations. PLEASE DONATE to the Cold Relief In Bedford (CRIB) Appeal, so we can continue to provide shelter, safety and support to Bedford’s homeless and socially excluded. We’d love you to come along to the Open Day, so you can see how your kind donations keep the building up and running and our service open.

The SMART Prebend Centre is located at 12 Prebend St, Bedford, MK40 1QW. Telephone: 01234 365955. Email: prebend@smartcjs.org.uk.
