We have an exciting new opportunity for an enthusiastic person/s to join the team at Norman Russell House (SMART’s supported accommodation in Milton Keynes for former rough sleepers) as the Activities Volunteer.
You will be helping to organise and run fun and educational events geared towards helping residents to improve on their life and social skills, so that when they are ready to move into independent accommodation they feel confident to do so. During these regular activities, you will get to know the residents well and will have the opportunity to promote positive mental health and wellbeing.
The skills you will need
- Good people skills
- Good organisational skills
- A compassionate approach
- And most importantly a positive attitude and a strong desire to help people feel valued and supported in a community focused on inclusion, support and growth.
The types of activities we currently offer
- Cooking
- Gym visits
- Running group
- Board games
- Quiz nights
- Relaxing walks
- Trips out (some educational, some fun!)
- Gardening
How much time do you need to become a volunteer?
To help you will need to spare 3-4 hours every week for a minimum of 3 months.
What if I’m able to do this, but still want to help?
Please get in touch manpreet.roopra@smartcjs.org.uk and if you are unable to commit right now or if you’d like to volunteer in a different capacity, I’d still love to chat with you about alternative and future volunteering opportunities.
If you have a contact who can help us to build upon the activities we already provide, such as a yoga instructor or a mindfulness practitioner, we’d love to hear from you or them.
Interested?
Email our volunteer coordinator manpreet.roopra@smartcjs.org.uk
If you can think of anyone who might be right for the role, please let them know.
