Local business owners back CRIB
On the 6th December our Communications and Business Development Manager took to the streets with Fergus, one of our dedicated Trustees, and Sarah, a passionate SMART Prebend volunteer. The aim of the outing was to visit independent shops in Bedford to spread the word about the SMART Prebend Centre’s annual appeal to help keep the service open during the harsh winter months (CRIB).
James Whitcomb SMART’s Communications and Business Development Manager said: “The support we received was overwhelming, with all local business owners keen to help promote the campaign. In total we distributed 1000 flyers and 100 posters, raising awareness of the centre and homelessness in Bedford along the way.
“I’d like to offer my heartfelt thanks to every one of you who is backing the appeal, including those who have donated, our fabulous fundraisers and all who have helped to spread the message. Our supporters are helping in many ways; putting up posters, sharing our emails, interacting with social media and having good old fashioned chats about the cause.”
The CRIB appeal has already raised 12% of a £60k target, but there is still a long way to go.

SMART volunteer Sarah commented: “It was great to talk to so many local businesses in Bedford as well as seeing a strong willingness to support the cause. We were able to engage in many meaningful conversations about homelessness and the vital work that we do to support vulnerable people. I’m excited to see local support for CRIB grow even further after a tiring, but successful day.”
Can you help to raise awareness of CRIB by putting up a poster at your local club, church group, or maybe at work?
Or perhaps you can donate?
Here is just a sample of the amazing local businesses who are helping to raise awareness of the centre and our appeal.
