About the Post
As a caseworker for SMART, you will have the ability to make a significant difference to those who are rough sleeping or are at risk of rough sleeping. Using goal focussed tools and techniques, you will provide support and guidance to individuals through regular structured support sessions. You will lead on the individual’s personalised support plan, based on person-centred care and addressing a wide range of issues affecting their life.
Your role will be varied and is likely to include outreach support for those rough sleeping, support for individuals residing in emergency accommodation and continuing tenancy sustainment once suitable move-on accommodation has been found. You will work across the rough sleeper pathway in Bedford.
Your role will also include completing assessment of needs and risk of individuals, so you will need to be able to quickly build rapport with people.
You will have:
- Great communication skills and experience of working effectively with others.
- Some experience of dealing directly with the public and/or customers in a busy operational environment.
- The ability to connect with rough sleepers and work with challenging behaviour.
- An understanding of the issues faced by homeless or vulnerably housed people and the difficulties they experience in accessing services.
- The wish to empower individuals to make positive change to their lives, often when they are at their lowest point.

Location: Bedford Somewhere Safe to Stay Hub (with overnight outdoor sweeps and searches)
Salary: £24,179 + unsociable hours shift allowance of £1,000, per annum (pro rata)
Working Hours: Rolling rota (4 nights on, 4 nights off) 10.30pm to 8.00am (equivalent to 37 hours per week every month)
Benefits: 27+ days annual leave (pro rata) + bank holiday / 6% employer pension contribution (after 3 months) / Employee Assistance Programme / Staff Discount scheme.
