Safestore show their support for the SMART Prebend Centre
The SMART Prebend Centre is for people who are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless in Bedford. The project provides assistance to meet people’s basic needs such as food, showers, clothing, bedding and toiletries, along with other emergency items, like tents and sleeping bags for people who are sleeping rough. The SMART team offer advice and support to help those who use the centre, helping them to learn new skills, build their confidence and move forward towards safe accommodation and independence.
The centre is dependent on the generosity of the local community through fundraising, trusts, grants and donations. Throughout the year, the team receive many donations of food, clothes and bedding, but the space it takes to store these items can limit the ways in which the centre is used.
During October storage became such a challenge for the centre that they had to look for additional space. After speaking to a number of storage providers in Bedford the team came across Safestore, who not only helped with the urgent storage problem, but have been generous enough to provide storage for another year completely free of charge.
Jodie McMinn, SMART’s Business Manager said “Thanks so much to Safestore, the staff at the Bedford branch have been exceedingly helpful and friendly. The storage space is invaluable right now as the success of the Christmas Relief In Bedford (CRIB) appeal sees the centre receiving an influx of donations of clothes and food items.”
SMART would like to extend a huge thanks to Safetore from everyone within the charity and especially those who work and use the SMART Prebend Centre. Your support is helping us to provide a comfortable and safe space for homeless people this winter!
