SMART CJS NEWS BULLETIN MAY/JUNE

SMART CJS’s services continue to be heavily influenced by the current pandemic and keeping staff and users of our services safe. We continue to redesign how we work to keep helping those who need it – with ever-increasing demand from those who have been badly affected.

We have so many amazing supporters, staff, volunteers, fundraisers, donors and people who make things happen and help to keep our services running. You say to us:

  • How do we know what’s going on?
  • What has my money gone towards?
  • How can I help or donate?
  • How do people get support?

The news roundup gives you the answers. It covers all SMART CJS’s projects and provides local contacts, should you wish to message a manager directly. Please free to share with your contacts – family, friends, colleagues and others.

SMART PREBEND CENTRE COVID-19 Appeal Update

The SMART Prebend Centre’s emergency appeal was launched in March to fund an anticipated shortfall in donations from groups who would normally meet and raise money for the service, before Covid-19 struck. With the help of our supporters (that’s you!), local groups meeting remotely, and charitable trusts, the appeal has raised 76% of its £25,000 target, but our Bedford homeless services still desperately need financial aid to keep going.

Donations are helping to cover the cost of Personal Protective Equipment for our frontline staff and volunteers and provision of basic toiletries. You have also helped to fund the purchase of new laptops, needed for our teams to record and access important information.

It’s crucial to keep this service open and available to anyone at risk of sleeping rough, so they can follow the social distancing rules and self-isolate to keep themselves and others safe.

PLEASE DONATE AND HELP BEDFORD’S HOMELESS

A message from SMART CJS’s CEO, Anita McCallum

We are seeing an extraordinary number of people accessing our drug & alcohol and homeless services as result of COVID-19, so it’s vital that we stay connected and united during this time. Despite the current challenges we are facing, SMART CJS remains committed to doing everything it can to help people get the support they need and take action to change their lives for the better. Sincere thanks to everyone who helps to keep our services going, you are all amazing!
