A Warm Welcome to the SMART Prebend Centre Open Day – Friday 31st January
On Friday 31st January 2020, the SMART Prebend Centre for the homeless will open its doors to the public from 2-5pm. This is an opportunity for residents, local businesses and partner agencies to take a tour, talk to staff and find out about homelessness in Bedford and how the service supports those who desperately need it.
Lisa Harrison, SMART CJS Area Manager explains:
“The service receives incredible help from the community; we would love to see some of our supporters on the day and welcome anyone who would like to know more about what we do. We weren’t able to host our originally planned open day during homelessness awareness week due to some unexpected, major works at the centre, so we’re really looking forward to welcoming people in now.”
No appointment is necessary, but you can reserve a space by visiting the centre’s Facebook Event
About the Centre
SMART Prebend Centre is open 365 days of the year supporting those who sleep rough, are vulnerably housed and socially isolated. The centre is a place of safety; providing food, warmth, water, showers and a place to rest. Further, it provides an opportunity to assess peoples’ needs and engage them in longer term support to move beyond homelessness.
WE NEED YOUR HELP MORE THAN EVER
The service is entirely reliant on donations and the support of the community and costs over £250,000 a year to stay open. We encountered unplanned building repairs towards the end of 2019, totaling more than £90,000, and we urgently need your help to fund the renovations. PLEASE DONATE to the Cold Relief In Bedford (CRIB) Appeal, so we can continue to provide shelter, safety and support to Bedford’s homeless and socially excluded. We hope you can make it to the SMART Prebend Centre Open Day, and look forward to showing you how your kind support and donations help to keep our service open.
