SMART Prebend Centre CRIB Appeal – A Fabulous Forty Thousand Pounds Raised
When we launched our Cold Relief In Bedford (CRIB) appeal in November, in aid of the SMART Prebend Centre for the homeless, Bedford – the target of £60,000 seemed ambitious. But the community has got right behind it.
This week, we are pleased to announce that a fabulous £40K has been raised. That’s a terrific two thirds of the amount required to hit our target!
Our CEO, Anita McCallum says in her update:
“It’s been humbling to see all ages, all types of groups and organisations rally round to make this year’s CRIB Appeal a success. From churches to convents, schools to small businesses and rotary clubs to SMART CJS’s own staff and Trustees – we thank everyone for their generosity and kindness. Local groups have been running novel events like the Castle Comedy Nights and bedecked their homes in lights like the Twitchens in Cardington to raise significant amounts. Thank you to everyone – you are amazing!
We only have £20K to go to make the £60K target – so let’s have one last push during the remainder of January and February to get the funds in that we so desperately need to keep the centre open in 2020.”
About SMART Prebend Centre
The SMART Prebend Centre is open 365 days of the year supporting those who sleep rough, are vulnerably housed and socially isolated. The centre is a place of safety; providing food, warmth, water, showers and a place to rest. Further, it provides an opportunity to assess peoples’ needs and engage them in longer term support to move beyond homelessness. It costs over £250,000 per year to keep the centre open and it is entirely reliant on donations and the support of the community. This year the team are facing the additional costs of an old building in need of repairs, and they need people’s help more than ever!
Can you help?
Please make a donation to CRIB or start a fundraising page so the SMART Prebend Centre team can continue to provide support, compassion and hope to Bedford’s homeless during the cold winter months and beyond.
