When you are worried about someone’s alcohol or drugs misuse, it can be easy to put all your energy into supporting them, and forget about your own needs. It’s important to recognise that by looking after yourself, you will be in a better position to offer support to someone else.
One of the most important things you can do to take care of yourself is to talk to people you trust. Not everyone is able to talk about their loved one’s drug or alcohol problems with people they know, so having additional support is extremely important.
Help is at hand
SMART Wokingham has a revised service for family members whose loved one is or has been misusing drugs or alcohol. The newly appointed Family Support Worker is available to offer support in person or over the phone, as little or as often as people need.
Call SMART Wokingham on 0118 9772022 and ask for the Family Support Worker. This service is open to Wokingham residents only.
