Team 4 leap into action and raise £500 for the SMART Prebend Centre!

Team 4 are a group of students led by Eleanor Richards, who participated in a number of fundraising events over the summer to raise money for the SMART Prebend Centre. The team were taking part in a National Citizen Service (NCS) social action project with MK Dons Sport and Education Trust (SET).

Most of the students who form Team 4 live in Bedford and have witnessed the scale of homelessness present in their local area. They were keen to learn about rough sleeping and wanted to challenge people’s perception of being homeless.

Eleanor was kind enough to provide a statement from the team…

“We are team 4, and we are very proud to say that we raised £500 for the SMART Prebend Centre as a result of our National Citizen Service (NCS) social action project. Homelessness is a problem very close to our hearts as we believe that it is an issue that attracts a lot of negative stigma, which we ultimately wanted to challenge and alter perceptions of. We picked the SMART Prebend Centre as a local charity that do amazing work to support the homeless in Bedford and we wanted to get behind this. Our fundraising events consisted of a sponsored hike and a sponsored sleep out (which gave a small insight of what being homeless feels like). We also did some voluntary work, such as helping out at Cherrie’s Legacy in Bedford, feeding the homeless. The whole experience was incredibly eye-opening and a joy to partake in. We hope that the money raised will help a little bit with the amazing work the SMART Prebend Centre does for the homeless.”

Our deepest thanks go to Team 4 and MK Dons Sports and Education Trust.
