Together We Grow!

On Friday 14th July The SMART Prebend Homeless Centre in Bedford welcomed local agencies, Service Users and local allotment holders to visit the ‘Together We Grow’ gardening project.

The project, originally set up 6 years ago is now run by a Prebend Support Worker (Tim Caswell) and Prebend Service Users. Tim encourages those who use the Day Centre to join one of the 3 weekly sessions, where they can enjoy the allotment and be a part of growing and maintaining the plants and vegetables there.

The Centre is currently working with 3 plots, but they have plans to join up with local partner agencies so they can expand Together We Grow, to increase and diversify the people who participate in the project.

The Highways Agency in Bedford have been extremely generous in supporting the project by making a £1300 donation for the second year in a row.

SMART’s new CEO, Cath Hoskins attended on the day and commented ‘Everyone needs to go to the allotments, it’s an amazing relaxing place, where not only the SMART Together We Grow community thrive, but the local allotment community support us too.’ Cath closed by saying ‘It’s great to visit SMART communities that are starting to flower!’

Together We Grow held their first sale of produce event at the Highways Agency last week and were delighted to have raised an incredible £212.70 on the day.

A massive well done to all the SMART Prebend team and Service Users of the Centre.

Please support us by donating, so that we can continue to run projects like Together We Grow.
